Bix De Pirro (they/them)
I'm a multidisciplinary artist based in Mexico City.
Born and raised in Mexico City I moved to Chicago in 2019 to pursue a BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I graduated in 2023. I've shown Prints and performances in both Mexico and Chicago.
The process is the most important part for me. The long task of working on copper plates, in many cases without a finished product in mind, or sewing in very large scale where the involvement of the body becomes the focus. From the process meaning is born.
My main inspirations come from the city as collective memory, city as both home and witness, and the memory created by bodies in space, space as memory. The personal transforms into the collective.
What is Beautiful?
Written in early 2023
The concept of what is beautiful is built upon historic and current systemic biases affected by colonialism and the heteropatrirchy. That's if we're getting technical and truthful.
What is beautiful to me though?
I think beauty is care that translates into emotion. At least when talking about human creation. Because nature is beautiful in it's vastness. I think feeling small and insignificant in a space is also beauty. To forget our own existence.
That's why architecture is also beautiful. However it also feels oppressive.
Human capability is truly beautiful too.
The more I think about it the more things and people seem beautiful. However there cannot be beauty without ugliness.
I think i put a lot of care into my work. I want the beauty from my work to come from emotion and introspection, I want to always expand what beauty is to me.
